Mike Shields
Chairman 100x Forum and Chief Investment Officer, National Christian Foundation
As Chief Investment Officer, Mike Shields leads the strategy for the NCF Investment team, focusing on developing innovative DAF solutions. He brings extensive executive leadership experience to NCF and has gained over three decades of expertise in structuring high quality investment portfolios. He began his career at NCNB (now Bank of America) in Charlotte, North Carolina. After 10 years, he joined Scudder, Stevens & Clark in New York as an equity portfolio manager. He subsequently joined Campbell, Cowperthwait, an investment boutique owned by U.S. Trust Corporation, where he was promoted to President and CIO and chaired Campbell’s Investment Policy Committee.
Midway through his investment career, Mike had the privilege of working for the Halftime organization and helped launch the Halftime Institute with his mentor, Bob Buford. He currently serves as Board Chair for Halftime of the Carolinas. Prior to coming to NCF, he spent 11 years as President and CEO of Piedmont Trust Company, a family office serving clients comprehensively since 1928.
One of Mike’s lifelong passions is helping others gain clarity regarding their investments, charitable goals, and life plans. He is skilled at guiding individuals and families in implementing strategies that allow them to pursue lives of enduring impact.
Mike earned a BA in Economics from the University of North Carolina, Charlotte and an MBA from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He holds a Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) designation from the CFA Institute. He and his wife Marion have been married for 32 years and are proud parents to three adult children. From their home in North Carolina, Mike enjoys hiking, playing golf, and spending quality time with family and friends.
